Welcome Message for the 4th Asian Lingual Orthodontic Meeting.
(The Future of Lingual Orthodontics:A Journey of Innovation and Evolution)」です。 It is a great honor and privilege to host the 4th Asian Lingual Orthodontic Meeting (ALOM) here in Fukuoka. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported the organization of this event, as well as to the participants from both Japan and abroad. The main theme of this meeting is “The Future of Lingual Orthodontics: A Journey of Innovation and Evolution.” In recent years, the field of orthodontics has undergone a rapid digital transformation. Processes that once relied heavily on the clinician’s skill and experience―such as scanning, simulation, and appliance fabrication―are now evolving into highly precise and efficient systems driven by digital data.
Moreover, the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning is bringing innovation to every aspect of clinical practice―from diagnostic support to treatment planning and outcome prediction. It is no exaggeration to say that we are now standing at the threshold of a new paradigm in orthodontics.
Amid this wave of change, lingual orthodontics has also made remarkable progress. Once avoided due to its technical challenges and limitations, lingual treatment has significantly improved in terms of precision and predictability thanks to innovations in appliance design, manufacturing technology, and the integration of digital tools. Notably, techniques that allow for individualized approaches tailored to each patient have been gaining ground, making lingual orthodontics a more practical and appealing option than ever before.
For this meeting, we have also invited leading experts in the field of clear aligner therapy, which has advanced rapidly alongside digital technology. Aligner orthodontics has established itself as a viable treatment modality that addresses diverse patient needs. In recent years, hybrid treatments that combine lingual appliances with aligners have also emerged, representing a promising direction for the future of orthodontic care.
Originally conceived as a platform for sharing knowledge and techniques in lingual orthodontics across Asia, ALOM now aims to broaden its scope by fostering deeper discussions on the future of orthodontics as a whole. Through valuable presentations by clinicians and researchers from various countries, we hope this meeting will inspire new perspectives, collaborations, and innovative ideas.
We are also honored to welcome Mr. Takafumi Horie―an entrepreneur and author with wide-ranging achievements―as a special guest speaker. He will address the theme “The Future Potential of Dental Medicine,” offering his insights into the transformations facing the dental profession and its evolving vision. We believe that his perspective from outside the field will provide us with fresh inspiration and thought-provoking challenges.
Fukuoka, the host city, has long served as a gateway to Asia―connecting cultures, economies, and people. In this spirit, we sincerely hope that this meeting will foster new connections and collaborations, and that it will be a fruitful and enriching experience for all participants.

Jazz…
Lingual orthodontics is similar to jazz.
If you look at the sales alone, it’s probably about the same as the earnings of one of the world’s best-selling artists.
But people who play jazz are cool.
Winning with freedom may seem rough at first glance, but behind the improvisations and performance arrangements, music theory and advanced techniques are hidden.
Freedom backed by abundant knowledge and experience. That’s why it’s cool. I hope that young orthodontists aim for this “freedom backed by knowledge and experience.”
The main theme of the current Asian Academy of Lingual Orthodontics (ALOM) is “digital.” Similarly, by playing digital with traditional systems with a free idea, it can sometimes produce results beyond expectations.
Originally, the purpose of digitalization is to provide better treatment and to produce better results more simply, but I wonder if the purpose is not to “use digital” or “do it digitally.”
I hope that this meeting will serve as a warning against digitalization and become a singular point for further advanced treatment.
Don’t just be an Aligner, Be an Orthodontist.

Don’t just be an aligner, become an orthodontist.

KALO President’s Greetings

Gisun Bae
Distinguished members of KALO and JLOA, and esteemed lingual orthodontic specialists from across Asia and around the world who have graciously joined us today:
It is a great honor and a sincere pleasure to welcome all of you to this special event.
In the past few years, the rapid adoption and advancement of clear aligner systems have significantly reshaped the landscape of aesthetic orthodontics. We are all keenly aware of the concern that, amid these changes, the role of lingual orthodontics appears to be diminishing. Indeed, the complex biomechanics and high level of clinical expertise required for lingual treatment have long been seen as obstacles, making its adoption more difficult for many practitioners.
However, lingual orthodontics has recently encountered an unprecedented opportunity to leap forward, thanks to its integration with powerful digital technologies such as intraoral scanning, virtual setups, and 3D printing. The emergence of AI-assisted treatment planning, precision 3D-printed custom brackets, and highly accurate indirect bonding guides are transforming lingual orthodontics into a faster, more precise, and more predictable form of treatment than ever before.
In particular, the digital setup models that we have long used in lingual orthodontics are now being shared with clear aligner therapy as well. This convergence suggests that the relationship between lingual and clear aligner treatment need not be one of competition. Instead, their respective strengths and limitations can complement one another, offering the possibility of more effective and efficient hybrid treatment strategies.
This 4th Asian Lingual Orthodontic Meeting will serve as a platform to share the digital technologies and innovative ideas that can help bring this possibility into clinical reality. I hope this academic gathering becomes a meaningful opportunity for us to explore the path forward and to shape a new future for lingual orthodontics together.
With heartfelt gratitude, I look forward to your passionate participation and the inspiration you will bring to this event.

TALO President’s Greetings

Yu-Ching Huang
As the current President of the Taiwan Association of Lingual Orthodontists (TALO), it is my great honor to extend my warmest greetings to all of you. I am truly grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I look forward to working together to advance both the clinical and academic development of lingual orthodontics.
Since its founding in 2015, TALO has been committed to building a platform that fosters clinical excellence, academic exchange, and professional collaboration. Over the years, we have maintained strong and friendly relationships with JLOA and KALO, supporting one another and growing together as a regional community.
Today, we find ourselves at a critical crossroads. With the rapid rise of aligner therapy, attention has gradually shifted away from lingual orthodontics, posing new challenges to our field. Yet despite these shifting trends, we must continue to believe in and advocate for the irreplaceable and unique value that lingual treatment offers.
Lingual orthodontics not only provides true invisibility, but also carries significant environmental benefits—minimizing contact with plastic particles and reducing overall waste. This treatment approach reflects a deeper commitment to both medical quality and sustainable development.
What inspires me most is the enduring passion of the global lingual orthodontic community. From pioneers and specialists to educators, so many continue to dedicate themselves to lifelong learning and international collaboration. I truly believe that the 4th Asian Lingual Orthodontic Meeting will serve not only as a meaningful academic exchange, but also as a source of inspiration and solidarity for all of us who are passionate about this beautiful field.
Lingual orthodontics is more than just a technique—it is a symbol of our shared dedication to excellence, precision, and thoughtful patient care. Let us continue this journey with courage and conviction, and keep contributing to the field we so deeply believe in.
Warmest regards,
Yu-Ching Huang
